If you want to have the joy of ice-skating, you have to go out onto the ice. Skating rinks are good, but out it in nature — on a river or a pond or a lake — is even better. You get the feeling of flying while on your feet, you feel even larger than your usual self. You may have the fun of engaging with another skater, or of falling and sliding to a stop and laughing at the novelty of it. But, you get back up and push off into another glide, another beautiful experience, way out of your usual daily events.
Watch out for thin ice, though; it’s also out there, along with all the beautiful possibilities. If you want the benefits, you also have to accept the risks. Of course, pay attention.
So it is with the coming new year; 2025 is the ice. It’s an invitation to create and explore what’s possible for you, including the falls and the sliding and the laughter. Yes, there’s a change in politics, a new kind of management of the country and its resources, sure to effect your year in some way. That’s the thin ice. Pay attention to your relationship to it, to what it means to you and yours, and decide what are appropriate responses for you. And at the same time, keep focusing your attention on your intentions for your own life and beauty and growth and joy, because those are out there in 2025, too.
Here comes another year with more possibilities than we can even imagine. So go ahead, skate!
